4. Hotcakes

This section deals with special configurations and usage of Hotcakes.

4.1. Defining NAS Devices

4.1.1. Problem

Hotcakes is a huge hit in your small office/suburb. Now other departments/houses also want to hook up their ChilliSpot and Mikrotik devices up to your Hotcakes server.

  • You need to keep track which devices are using your Free Radius server.

  • You want to kick misbehaving users of the network, no matter which Access Point they are using.

  • You need to know what type of devices are on your network.

  • You need a graphical indication where these devices are situated.

4.1.2. Solution

  • Get a GPRS handheld device to jot down the latitude and longitude of each device which is destined to become part of your network.

  • Add these devices to the 'NAS Devices' list in Hotcakes.

  • On each device, specify the Free Radius server to use. Also specify the shared secret between Free Radius and the device.

  • Register your Hotcakes server with Google to get a map key in order to be used outside 'localhost'
